Duped or Duplicitous? Bode & Bardini’s Madonna della Rosa with Lynn Catterson

Secrets & Scandals of the Archives Season 3 Episode 2

Deriving from material in the state archive of the Florentine dealer, Stefano Bardini, this talk presents a case study in order to illustrate the ways in which Bardini & Co. contaminated the canon of objects as well as the scholarly literature.  The so-called Madonna della Rosa exists in at least five versions:  a marble in the Victoria & Albert Museum, from which Bardini created four more versions using a photograph of the V&A marble.

This talk is free for members & patrons of CSF.
